Lava Lamp

Lava Lamp

In this fun eggsperiment, you'll make a DIY lava lamp with simple household materials. Kids will love this activity, all while learning about chemical reactions.

What you need:

  • Glass Jar or cup
  • Half the Jar with Vegetable Oil
  • 1 tablespoon Vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Baking Soda
  • Few drops of colored dye
  1. Place oil and baking soda in a jar and then in a separate cup mix a small amount of Vinegar and liquid dye.
  2. Pour the dye mixture into the oil mixture and watch the bubbles begin to activate your lava lamp.

Vinegar and Baking Soda create Carbon Dioxide which is what the bubbles are and they want to escape. Once they hit surface and pop the vinegar travels back down because it is heavier than oil and the reaction starts all over.
